Adara's Bio

Adara is quite simply an awesome dog! 

Adara was bred by Barbara Nelson Thornberry and Patricia Heichel with Valor Goldens. Adara's sire was bred by Judy Slayton Bachofner. 

Adara is smart, biddable, spunky, confident, laid-back, a little goofy, a little serious, sweet, loving, and snuggly, all rolled into one beautiful package. I know that some of those are contradictory, but that is how I would describe her. She has a spunky side and a goofy side, but for the most part she is smart, biddable, laid-back, serious, sweet, and snuggly.

She gets along with other dogs and LOVES meeting new people. She is wonderful with children. She is so easy to live with in the house. She was crated as a puppy, mostly at night, until about 6 months old, after which she has proven herself trustworthy of free-roam of the house. She doesn't get into stuff that she shouldn't. She will instead get a toy to chew on or suck on her stuffed Golden Retriever. She likes to play fetch some, but she would prefer to use her nose and smell around the yard. 

Some may think this is funny or maybe even odd, but Adara loves rain and thunderstorms. If Adara hears thunder, rain, or wind, she runs out of the dog door, to go out and run around the yard in the rain. Adara doesn't get to swim very often, but she absolutely LOVES to swim. 

Adara only has some very minor quirks. She can pull on leash at times, when she gets excited, but this is improving with more training. She can get a little nervous when she hears fireworks, not major, but you see she is nervous.

Physically, Adara is nicely balanced, moderate, and a little classic or old fashioned in style. At only 18 months old, at our National Specialty, Adara was evaluated by 3 CCA judges, to earn her "CCA" Certificate of Conformation Assessment, and all 3 judges had wonderful things to say about her. Her overall scores were 86.5, 87, and 93 out of 100. 

Adara's Titles

Adara is an AKC Champion.  I personally put the first 2 Champion points on Adara myself, and then had a handler show her, who put 10 points on her with 1 Major, so at the time that Adara was bred, and produced our boy Ike, Adara only needed one 3 point Major to finish.  After Adara had her son Ike, I skipped her next cycle, so she could grow her coat back, and then started showing Adara myself, to earn her last 3 point Major.  After broken Majors and a show where the judge gave Adara Best Opposite Sex over specials (in which would normally be awesome), instead of Best of Winner's, I ended up putting an additional 9 points on Adara myself, chasing that last 3 point Major. After finishing Adara's Championship, I decided to show Adara, just a little bit in Best of Breed, to start earning some AKC Grand Champion points, and prior to being bred to Remedy, Adara earned 9 GCH points, including a 4 point GCH Specialty Major, with me having fun on the end of her lead. 

Her other AKC titles includes Trick Novice (TKN), Farm Dog Certification (FDC), Canine Good Citizen Advanced and Urban (CGCA & CGCU), Barnhunt Novice (RATN), DCAT, and Certificate of Conformation Assessment (CCA). Adara and I are currently training in Scent Work, so I will be putting Scent Work titles on her in the future, as well.

Adara is also a UKC Grand Champion.
